Leading Lightly

A workshop programme for people who lead without the title.

Leading without the title

The hardest people to find development for

They are dotted throughout organisations - the person the project depends on; colleagues people go to when something is stuck; the individual contributor who is almost the manager, but not quite there yet …

Two workshops in and I can already see myself using this to reflect more intentionally on how I communicate, follow up, and support others. It made me more aware of the patterns in my approach and what I may be overlooking.
— Programme Participant, 2026

They are already leading, in small and constant ways, and they are usually the hardest people to find development for, because most management training assumes a team to practise on.

This programme does not. It builds a management practice now, using the job currently being done.

The programme helps you to look closely at your own working life, at the people and conditions around you, and to make enough sense of it to shape, on purpose, the kind of leader you are becoming.

By the end of the programme:

  • You see how colleagues are shaped and as a result treat their differences as something to read and work with, rather than a fault or something to be managed.

  • You see your own patterns of behaviour and choose differently when the person or situation needs it.

  • You can hold conversations that draw out what matters and keep dialogue open.

  • You stop treating how you lead, and where you lead, as simply a given. You begin to take a deliberate hand in the leader you are becoming.

Themes: inherited habits, how others see, goals and purpose, psychological safety, burnout and performance rhythm, feedback and influence.
