Managing Now
A workshop programme for managers already doing the job.
A deliberate management practice
Development for the manager they already are.
Development experiences should not be a set of responses to reach for when something goes wrong. Or teachings about abstract techniques that assume the practice will follow.
This programme is built for practising managers who want to stop firefighting and managing for compliance, and to spend more time on the parts of the role that multiply and progress the work.
It does not assume the manager is starting fresh. It assumes they are already leading, already setting goals, already having the conversations, and it works to make all of that more deliberate.
“It was not just theory, nor prescriptive. It was more about exploring different approaches and finding a way that works for me. ”
The programme helps managers refine their approach from something done by reaction to something done by design. To put the person at the centre of the goal, the conversation and the development, and to help managers build the conditions where their people can succeed sustainably, rather than manage the consequences when those conditions are missing.
By the end of the programme:
You set goals with people that genuinely motivate them, drawing on autonomy, mastery and purpose, rather than assigning tasks to people and hoping for engagement.
You read the person and the situation in front of you, and flex how you coach, support and give feedback, rather than defaulting to the one approach that feels comfortable to you.
You stop treating the place you work as a fixed backdrop and start seeing it as something you make, through how safe it feels to speak, whether the work has any let-up, and whose signals you notice or miss.
You move from reacting when things have already gone wrong to designing a management practice that surfaces what matters early enough to act on it.
Themes: motivation and purpose, goals people care about, psychological safety, burnout and performance rhythm, growing talent, situational coaching, feedback and feedforward, communicating under uncertainty, and proactive management by design.

Reflective Review
“The concept of purpose, right at the very beginning of the series, was like a lightning bolt. That is now something I am using.”
