Workshop: Connecting Work to What Matters

The Challenge

You've explained the goal clearly. You've outlined why it matters to the business. Yet something still isn't connecting. The person understands what they need to do, but they don't seem to care about it. Or perhaps someone on your team has an aspiration they want to pursue, and you're not sure how to support it in a way that also serves the organisation's needs. Either way, there's a gap between what needs to happen and what feels meaningful.

Description

Goals that feel arbitrary don't get achieved. When people can't see why their work matters, to them personally or to something bigger, you get compliance at best. This workshop explores how to create genuine connection between individual purpose and organisational need. Crucially, this works in both directions: sometimes you're helping people see why an organisational goal matters to them; sometimes you're helping them connect their personal aspirations to what the organisation needs. You'll learn to navigate both conversations authentically.

What You'll Walk Away With

  • A framework for connecting purpose that works in both directions, whether the goal originates from you or from them

  • Practical conversation templates for different scenarios

  • Techniques for uncovering what genuinely motivates each person without it feeling forced

  • A comprehensive guide to purpose connection that you can use repeatedly with different team members

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this workshop, you will be able to:

  • Uncover what genuinely motivates each person and what makes work meaningful to them

  • Connect organisational goals to individual purpose in ways that feel authentic rather than manufactured

  • Help team members see how their personal aspirations can serve organisational needs

  • Recognise when genuine connection isn't possible and handle that honestly

This Workshop is For You If...

  • You've explained the "why" behind a goal but it still didn't land

  • You have team members with aspirations you'd like to support but aren't sure how to align them with business needs

  • You want to move beyond "because I said so" or "because the business needs it" as your primary rationale

  • You've noticed that purpose-driven work gets better results but aren't sure how to create that consistently

How You'll Learn

You'll work with real scenarios from your own context, practise the conversations that create genuine connection, and explore what to do when alignment isn't straightforward. This session involves paired exercises, honest discussion about what makes purpose conversations feel authentic versus hollow, and practical application to your actual team.

Our Approach

This workshop is part of a collection designed for managers navigating the real complexity of leading people whilst delivering results. Each session stands alone, but all share a common perspective: that sustainable performance and genuine care for people aren't competing priorities. They're connected. The practical tools you'll use here are designed to work in the pressured reality of organisational life, not just in theory.
